Welcome to the Sacred Journey of Motherhood!

Part 1

When you give birth, it is not just your baby that is born; in a way, you are born.  This is a profound and glorious birth itself…your birth as a mother.  All births require celebration, treasuring and deep care.  While there are normal difficulties and challenges that every new mother face, when the path is lit by those who have gone before us, there is the possibility of making the transition with grace and ease.

Some of us plan and prepare for our pregnancies methodically by doing all the “right” things and planning for the ideal birthing experience.  We have a vision.  We make plans by following our intuition, by what society expects us to do or what our health care providers suggest to us.  We read books, follow social media posts and listen to people’s pregnancy and birth stories.  At the end of the day this pregnancy journey is yours and yours alone.

I want to emphasize intuition, your gut and informed consent.  This is your pregnancy, your birth experience and your choice on how it unfolds.  If what is being suggested to you doesn’t make sense, not what you want, you question or need more information… step away, take a minute to breath and have a think.  This only means you need more information on topics of interest or concern before making an executive decision.  Does this align with your plan, your beliefs, wants and needs?  Listen to your intuition, your gut and be informed before giving consent.  A doula can help you on YOUR pregnancy and birth journey.

“There is no one right way to be pregnant, to give birth, to be a mother…But when we are surrounded by a web of support and information, we are free to explore what works for ourselves, our babies and our families”.
